ATAcompatible
ATA-compatible refers to hardware that conforms to the ATA (Advanced Technology Attachment) standard for storage devices. The term is most commonly used for devices that communicate over the parallel ATA (PATA) bus and implement the ATA command set, including ATAPI extensions used by optical drives. In essence, an ATA-compatible device can connect to an ATA controller or a motherboard’s interface and understand the same basic commands used to read, write, and manage data.
Historically, ATA-compatible devices used 40- or 44-pin data and control connectors on the motherboard or controller
In modern contexts, the term is often seen as historical since Serial ATA (SATA) and other interfaces
