AMradiotaajuudet refers to the radio frequencies used for Amplitude Modulation (AM) broadcasting. AM is a modulation technique used in electronic communication, most commonly for transmitting information via a radio carrier wave which conveys a particular waveform. In amplitude modulation, the amplitude of the carrier wave is varied in proportion to the waveform that transmits the information.

AM radio frequencies typically fall within the Medium Frequency (MF) band, ranging from 530 kHz to 1710 kHz in North America and many other parts of the world, and from 531 kHz to 1602 kHz in Europe and some other regions. These frequencies are chosen because they can propagate over relatively long distances, especially during the night, by reflecting off the ionosphere. This characteristic made AM broadcasting ideal for reaching wide geographical areas.

The AM band is divided into channels, each spaced 10 kHz apart in North America and 9 kHz apart in Europe. This spacing ensures that adjacent channels do not interfere with each other. AM transmissions are susceptible to various forms of interference, including atmospheric noise and electrical interference from man-made sources, which can degrade audio quality. Despite the advent of more advanced modulation techniques like Frequency Modulation (FM), AM radio remains in use for news, talk shows, and long-distance broadcasting due to its cost-effectiveness and wide coverage.
