ACES2065-1, commonly referred to as ACES2065-1 or AP0, is the canonical linear scene-referred working space defined by the Academy Color Encoding System (ACES). It provides a device-independent, linear RGB color space intended as the base for color management in film, visual effects, and related media workflows. The space uses a fixed white point (D65) and a defined set of primaries to cover the visible gamut in a linear encoding, enabling consistent color reproduction across cameras, lighting, and displays.

In an ACES pipeline, image data from cameras or scanners is transformed into ACES2065-1 via an Input Device Transform (IDT). From there, color is managed through the Reference Rendering Transform (RRT) and can be further processed or transformed to other ACES spaces, such as ACEScg for CG workflows or tone-mapped variants like ACEScc and ACEScct, before being mapped to display-referred outputs via Output Display Transforms (ODTs).

ACES2065-1 serves as a common interchange and archival reference, providing a single colorimetric base to minimize color drift across production stages. It is intended for linear-light processing; gamma or display encoding is applied later by ODTs to produce viewable images. The official specifications define the space’s primaries, white point, and the matrices to convert to and from CIE XYZ, as well as the transforms that connect IDTs, RRT, and ODTs.

Within the broader ACES framework, ACES2065-1 is complemented by related spaces such as ACEScg for CG-era work and tone-mapped variants, all designed to preserve color fidelity and ensure consistent results across production environments.
