Linearlight, in lighting and optics, denotes light emitted from an elongated, line-shaped source, yielding a predominantly one-dimensional distribution. In practice it refers to linear lighting fixtures and sources that produce a continuous line of illumination, as opposed to point sources or area lights.

Linearlight sources include fluorescent tubes (such as T5 and T8) installed in a linear configuration, LED linear modules, LED light bars, and LED strips arranged end-to-end. The geometry allows for efficient high-intensity illumination along a corridor, shelf, or display plane. Optical components such as diffusers, lens arrays, or reflectors manipulate the beam to achieve either uniform line illumination or a controlled, directional head of light. The radiometric distribution can be adjusted with the shape of the emitter, the spacing of elements, and any optical attachments.

Applications for linearlight include architectural and interior lighting, task lighting, backlighting for signage, display cases, and stage lighting. It is also used in automotive interiors and instrument panels when a continuous line of light is desired, offering a clean aesthetic and predictable illumination along long surfaces.
