6016

6016 is a wrought aluminum alloy in the 6xxx series, designated in European standards as EN AW-6016. It is a magnesium-silicon alloy that gains much of its strength from precipitation hardening and heat treatment. The alloy is widely used for extruded profiles and structural components.

The main alloying elements are magnesium and silicon, which form strengthening precipitates within the aluminum matrix. Typical compositions include small amounts of iron, copper, chromium, zinc, and titanium. 6016 offers good formability, weldability, and corrosion resistance, and it can be anodized for enhanced surface finish and protection.

Temper designations for 6016 include T4 and T6, among others.
