1N4007

The 1N4007 is a general-purpose silicon rectifier diode in the 1N400x series. It is widely used for low-frequency rectification in power supplies and other electrical circuits, providing a simple, rugged solution for converting AC to DC. The device is rated for a maximum repetitive reverse voltage of 1000 volts and can conduct a continuous forward current of about 1 amp. It also supports a peak surge current of around 30 amperes.

Electrical characteristics commonly cited for the 1N4007 include a forward voltage drop of roughly 0.7 volts when conducting at 1 amp, and a very small reverse leakage current in the microamp range when reverse-biased. The diode has a relatively slow reverse-recovery time compared with fast or ultra-fast rectifiers, which makes it less suitable for high-speed switching applications.

Construction and packaging of the 1N4007 typically use axial-leaded, through-hole packages such as the DO-41 form factor. It is part of the wider 1N400x family, which includes variants with different reverse-voltage ratings, from 1N4001 (low voltage) up to 1N4007 (1000 V).

Applications and usage notes: the 1N4007 is commonly employed in power supplies, power reconversion, and general-purpose rectification tasks where voltages do not exceed its 1000 V rating. It can also serve in reverse-polarity protection and simple flyback diode roles. For high-speed rectification or switching tasks, alternatives with faster recovery may be preferred.
