Õppekirikud

Õppekirikud, often translated as "teaching churches" or "study churches," are a concept found in certain educational and religious contexts, particularly within Protestant traditions in some European countries, notably Estonia. These are not typically separate physical buildings but rather designated spaces within existing churches or church complexes that are equipped for educational purposes. The primary function of an õppekirik is to serve as a practical learning environment for theological students, clergy, and sometimes other church workers.

These spaces might include classrooms, libraries, study rooms, and facilities for practicing theological disciplines such as preaching, pastoral counseling, or liturgy. The aim is to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge gained in seminaries and the practical application required in ministry. Students might use the õppekirik to observe services, conduct mock sermons for feedback, engage in case studies of congregational life, or participate in supervised pastoral visits. In some instances, an õppekirik might also serve as a center for continuing education for ordained ministers, offering workshops and advanced training. The concept emphasizes experiential learning and the development of practical ministry skills within a faith-based setting.
