Õhusüsteemide, often translated as "air systems" or "pneumatic systems," refers to the technology and engineering principles involved in using compressed air to perform work or convey information. These systems are fundamental in a wide range of industrial, commercial, and even domestic applications. The core component of any air system is a compressor, which takes ambient air and increases its pressure. This compressed air is then stored in a receiver or tank, acting as a buffer to ensure a consistent supply.

From the receiver, the compressed air is transported through a network of pipes and hoses. Filters and dryers are crucial in these lines to remove moisture and particulate matter, which can damage equipment and compromise system performance. Pressure regulators are also installed to control the air pressure delivered to various components, ensuring they operate within their specified parameters. Actuators, such as pneumatic cylinders and motors, are the devices that convert the energy of compressed air into mechanical motion. These are widely used in manufacturing for tasks like lifting, pressing, and rotating. Control valves direct the flow of compressed air to these actuators, enabling the automation of processes.

Pneumatic systems are favored for their simplicity, reliability, and relatively low cost. They are also inherently safe in environments where sparks from electrical equipment could pose a fire hazard. Common applications include assembly lines, robotic arms, braking systems in vehicles, dental drills, and even the operation of musical instruments like pipe organs.
