õigusisikute refers to legal persons in Estonian law. A legal person is an entity that has rights and obligations separate from its owners or members. This distinction allows the entity to own property, enter into contracts, sue and be sued, and generally participate in legal and economic activities as a distinct party.

There are various types of legal persons recognized in Estonia. These include companies, such as private limited companies (osaühing) and public limited companies (aktsiaselts), which are established for commercial purposes. Non-profit associations (mittetulundusühing) and foundations (sihtasutus) are other common forms of legal persons, typically established for social, cultural, or charitable objectives. Public authorities and certain other institutions can also be recognized as legal persons.

The establishment and functioning of legal persons are governed by specific laws, primarily the Commercial Code for business entities and other relevant legislation for non-profit organizations and foundations. Key aspects include registration in the relevant Estonian Commercial Register, which grants the entity its legal personality. The legal person is managed by its governing bodies, such as a management board and a supervisory board or general meeting, depending on the type of legal person. The liability of the legal person is generally limited to its own assets, protecting the personal assets of its members or founders.
