õhukolonn
Õhukolonn refers to a column of air that is rising or sinking. This phenomenon is a fundamental aspect of atmospheric dynamics and plays a crucial role in weather patterns. Rising air columns, often associated with areas of low pressure, are known as updrafts. As air rises, it cools, and if it contains sufficient moisture, condensation can occur, leading to cloud formation and precipitation. Cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds, characteristic of showers and thunderstorms, are examples of formations driven by strong updrafts.
Conversely, sinking air columns are known as downdrafts. These are typically found in areas of high pressure.
