Észlelésében (perception) refers to the process by which an organism or a machine becomes aware of its environment through sensory input. In humans, perception involves the use of senses such as sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell to interpret and make sense of the world around us. This process is influenced by both the physical characteristics of the stimuli and the cognitive processes that occur in the brain.

The perception process can be broken down into several stages. First, sensory receptors detect changes in the environment and convert these changes into electrical signals. These signals are then transmitted to the brain via the nervous system. In the brain, different areas are specialized for processing different types of sensory information. For example, the visual cortex processes information from the eyes, while the auditory cortex processes information from the ears.

Cognitive processes also play a crucial role in perception. These include attention, memory, and expectation. Attention allows us to focus on relevant information while filtering out irrelevant stimuli. Memory helps us to integrate new information with what we already know. Expectation, based on past experiences and knowledge, influences how we interpret new sensory information.

Perception is not always accurate. It can be influenced by various factors such as prior knowledge, attention, and the context in which the stimuli are presented. This is often referred to as perceptual bias or illusion. For instance, the moon illusion, where the moon appears larger near the horizon than when it is high in the sky, is a well-known example of perceptual bias.

In the field of artificial intelligence, perception is a key area of research. Machine perception involves the use of sensors and algorithms to enable machines to interpret and make sense of their environment. This is crucial for tasks such as object recognition, navigation, and human-machine interaction.
