Ääneneristys, also known as soundproofing, refers to the process of reducing sound transmission between spaces. It is a crucial aspect of building design and construction, aiming to create environments free from unwanted noise. This is achieved through various methods and materials that absorb, block, or dissipate sound waves.

The primary principle behind ääneneristys is to increase the mass and density of the barrier between sound sources and receivers. Heavy, solid materials like concrete, brick, or multiple layers of drywall are effective at reflecting sound. However, simply adding mass is not always sufficient.
