Ösztrogénszint refers to the amount of estrogen present in a person's body. Estrogen is a primary female sex hormone, although it is also present in smaller amounts in males. It plays a crucial role in the development and regulation of the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics. Levels of estrogen fluctuate throughout a woman's menstrual cycle, and significantly change during pregnancy and menopause.

In women, estrogen is primarily produced by the ovaries, with smaller amounts produced by the adrenal glands and fat tissue. During puberty, rising estrogen levels lead to the development of breasts, widening of the hips, and the start of menstruation. Throughout a woman's reproductive years, estrogen works with other hormones to regulate the menstrual cycle, prepare the uterus for potential pregnancy, and maintain vaginal lubrication.

During pregnancy, estrogen levels rise dramatically to support the growth of the fetus and prepare the body for childbirth. As a woman approaches menopause, typically in her late 40s or early 50s, her ovaries produce less estrogen. This decline in estrogen levels can lead to various symptoms, including hot flashes, vaginal dryness, mood changes, and a potential decrease in bone density.

In men, estrogen is produced by the testes and adrenal glands. While present in lower concentrations than in women, it still plays a role in sperm production and erectile function. Abnormal estrogen levels in men can contribute to conditions like gynecomastia (breast enlargement). Monitoring and understanding estrogen levels can be important for diagnosing and managing various health conditions in both men and women.
