Önhatékonyságot, often translated as self-efficacy, is a key concept in social cognitive theory, developed by psychologist Albert Bandura. It refers to an individual's belief in their capacity to execute behaviors necessary to produce specific performance attainments. In simpler terms, it's about how confident a person is in their ability to succeed in a particular situation or accomplish a specific task.

High self-efficacy leads individuals to approach challenging tasks as tasks to be mastered rather than threats to be avoided. People with high self-efficacy tend to exert more effort and persist longer in the face of difficulties. Conversely, low self-efficacy can lead to avoidance of challenging tasks and a feeling of helplessness, even when faced with manageable obstacles.

Self-efficacy is not a measure of objective skill but rather a belief about one's capabilities. It is developed and shaped by four primary sources: mastery experiences (successful past performances), vicarious experiences (observing others succeed), social persuasion (encouragement from others), and physiological and emotional states (interpreting one's own physical and emotional reactions).

This belief system influences how people think, feel, motivate themselves, and behave. It plays a significant role in various domains of life, including academic achievement, career choices, athletic performance, and health behaviors. Understanding and fostering self-efficacy can be crucial for personal growth and successful goal attainment.
