Öljyyn

Öljyyn is a small locality in Murmansk Oblast, Russia. It is located in the Muravienko District, approximately 20 kilometers north of the district center, Sergeevka. The settlement itself is situated near the Bank Postoyalka River, a tributary of the Imandra River.

As of the 2010 census, Öljyyn has a population of 967 residents. The area is relatively remote, with limited infrastructure and connectivity. However, the nearby town of Murmansk, the largest city in the Kola Peninsula, offers more services and amenities.

The local economy is primarily based on small-scale agriculture and subsistence hunting. Some residents engage in fishing in the nearby rivers, while others collect timber for fuel and construction. Öljyyn has a school, a health center, and several shops, providing basic services to the community.

The settlement's natural environment is characterized by coniferous forests, characteristic of the subarctic climate of the region. The average January temperature is around -20 degrees Celsius, with significant snowfall throughout the winter months. The average July temperature is about 12 degrees Celsius. Residents of Öljyyn and surrounding areas experience two distinct seasons: a cold, dark winter and a mild, relatively short summer.

Öljyyn's isolation and relatively remote location make it a typical example of a rural settlement in Russia's North. The area remains largely untouched by modern developments, and the traditional way of life continues to be practiced by the local community.
