Õhuvedude

Õhuvedude, also known as airways or respiratory passages, are the network of tubes and cavities within the body that facilitate the exchange of gases between the environment and the bloodstream. They play a crucial role in the process of respiration, which is essential for the survival of all aerobic organisms. The primary function of õhuvedude is to transport oxygen from the inhaled air to the blood and to remove carbon dioxide, a waste product of cellular metabolism, from the blood to be exhaled.

In humans, the õhuvedude system begins with the nasal cavity and mouth, which lead to the pharynx. From there, air passes through the larynx and into the trachea, also known as the windpipe. The trachea branches into two primary bronchi, which further divide into secondary bronchi and then into smaller bronchioles. The bronchioles lead to tiny air sacs called alveoli, where the exchange of gases occurs.
