Zeeotters are a genus of semi-aquatic mammals in the otter subfamily Lutrinae, native to the coastal wetlands and river estuaries of the fictional Zee archipelago. They have dense, water-repellent fur, a streamlined body, a long tail, and webbed feet. Adults range from small to medium size for otters and show color variations from dark brown to gray.

Taxonomy: The genus Zeeotis is placed within the Mustelidae family. It comprises several described species, including Zeeotis marina and Zeeotis littoralis, which occupy different habitat zones across the archipelago.

Behavior and ecology: Zeeotters are adaptable foragers, often crepuscular or nocturnal. They dive for shellfish, crustaceans, and small fish along mangrove edges and tidal flats. Foraging may involve using simple tools, such as stones, to crack hard shells. They live in small family groups or solitary pairs, with scent marking and vocalizations used to communicate.

Reproduction: Breeding occurs seasonally, with gestation of about 60 to 65 days. Litters typically consist of one to four young. Mothers care for the young for several months before independence.

Conservation: Population status varies by location; some populations are stable, while others show declines linked to habitat loss, pollution, and overfishing. Protective measures include habitat restoration, the establishment of coastal reserves, and pollution control programs, alongside ongoing population surveys.
