Zakrzep refers to a blood clot that forms within a blood vessel, obstructing the flow of blood. This condition, known as thrombosis, can occur in veins (venous thrombosis) or arteries (arterial thrombosis). A venous thrombosis, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), typically forms in the legs and can lead to pain, swelling, and redness. If a DVT dislodges and travels to the lungs, it can cause a pulmonary embolism, a potentially life-threatening event. Arterial thrombosis, on the other hand, can obstruct blood flow to vital organs, potentially causing a heart attack if it occurs in the coronary arteries or a stroke if it affects the arteries supplying the brain.
