Yläaste, or the upper stage of Finland's comprehensive school, refers to grades 7 through 9. It is part of the nine-year basic education (peruskoulu) and serves students typically aged 12 to 15. Yläaste follows the lower stage (ala-aste) and marks the final years of compulsory education; after completing it, students may continue to upper secondary education (lukio) or enter vocational training.
