Xenonlamppu, often referred to as a xenon arc lamp, is a type of gas-discharge lamp that uses xenon gas to produce light. The lamp consists of a sealed glass or quartz envelope containing xenon gas at high pressure, along with two electrodes. When a sufficiently high voltage is applied across the electrodes, an electric arc is formed, ionizing the xenon gas and causing it to emit a bright, white light.

The spectrum of light produced by a xenon lamp closely resembles that of natural sunlight, making it highly desirable for applications requiring accurate color rendering. This characteristic, combined with its high luminous efficacy and long lifespan, has led to its widespread use in various fields.

Common applications include automotive headlights, where xenon bulbs provide superior illumination compared to traditional halogen lamps. They are also found in projectors for cinema and home theaters, stage lighting, searchlights, and in scientific instruments such as spectrophotometers. The intense and broad-spectrum light of xenon lamps is also utilized in medical applications like phototherapy and some dermatological treatments. Despite their advantages, xenon lamps require a ballast to regulate the current and voltage during operation.
