Windkering is a term used to describe a circular wind-energy capture concept that uses a ring-shaped housing to funnel wind to energy-generating devices. The design combines wind redirection with energy conversion to reduce wind loads on nearby structures while producing electricity.

Typical configuration includes a toroidal duct or an open ring with internal channels guiding airflow toward an array of turbines, typically vertical-axis or cross-flow turbines placed along the ring interior. Some designs rely on active airflow management using adjustable louvers or movable vanes.

Benefits and limitations: Potential benefits include dense, scalable energy production in urban settings, reduced near-building turbulence and shielding of openings, and aesthetic integration. Limitations include high construction costs, complex maintenance, sensitivity to wind direction, and regulatory and safety concerns.
