Warmweather refers to periods when surface air temperatures are higher than typical for a given location and season. It is described using temperature anomalies relative to a reference climatology, often a 30-year baseline. A period is considered warmweather when daily mean or maximum temperatures exceed normal values, sometimes lasting several days. Very intense and prolonged periods may be described as heat waves.

Temperature data come from ground stations, ships, buoys, radiosondes, satellites, and reanalysis products. Anomalies are calculated against baselines such as 1961–1990 or 1991–2020. Warmweather assessment uses mean seasonal temperatures, the frequency and duration of warm spells, and changes in growing-season length.

Causes include natural climate variability (for example El Niño and other ocean–atmosphere patterns) and long-term anthropogenic warming. Regional factors such as jet stream behavior, sea-surface temperatures, and urban heat islands influence when and where warmweather occurs.

Impacts include heat-related health risks, higher water demand and drought potential, stress on crops and livestock, greater energy use for cooling, and ecological shifts. Urban areas may experience amplified effects due to heat islands, potentially aggravating air quality and stress on vulnerable populations.

Regional and seasonal patterns vary: temperate zones often see warmweather in late spring and summer, while tropical regions may experience warmer conditions for longer periods. Preparedness and adaptation measures—such as heat alerts, cooling centers, and urban planning to reduce heat islands—help mitigate adverse effects.
