Vízsugárhajtású refers to a propulsion system that uses a jet of water to generate thrust. This method is commonly employed in watercraft, particularly in personal watercraft like jet skis and in some smaller boats. The principle behind water jet propulsion is straightforward. Water is drawn into an intake located at the bottom of the craft. This water is then accelerated by an impeller or a pump and expelled at high velocity through a nozzle at the stern. The force of the expelled water pushing backward creates an equal and opposite reaction force, pushing the craft forward.

Unlike propeller-driven boats, water jet systems have no exposed rotating blades, which makes them safer in shallow waters and around swimmers. They also offer excellent maneuverability, as the direction of the water jet can often be controlled by a steering nozzle. This allows for precise control, including the ability to move sideways or rotate on the spot. The compact nature of water jet drives also contributes to their popularity in smaller vessels where space is limited. However, water jet propulsion systems can sometimes be less efficient than traditional propellers, especially at higher speeds, and can be more susceptible to cavitation in certain operating conditions.
