vízmérték

A vízmérték, often translated as a spirit level or bubble level, is a simple yet essential tool used to determine if a surface is horizontal (level) or vertical (plumb). It typically consists of a liquid-filled tube, usually glass, that contains a bubble of air or other gas. This tube is mounted within a frame, which is often made of metal or plastic. The inner surface of the tube is typically curved, with markings at the center.

When the vízmérték is placed on a surface, the bubble of air will move within the liquid. If the surface is perfectly level, the bubble will settle exactly between the two central markings on the tube. If the surface is not level, the bubble will shift towards the higher end of the tube. For determining verticality, a separate vial oriented perpendicular to the main one is usually incorporated into the tool.

Vízmértékek are widely used in various trades and DIY projects. Carpenters, builders, masons, and plumbers rely on them to ensure that structures are built straight and true. For example, when hanging a picture frame, installing shelves, or constructing walls, a vízmérték is used to ensure everything is aligned correctly. Modern vízmértékek can also incorporate digital displays for more precise readings and may include features like laser projection for transferring level lines over longer distances. The fundamental principle, however, remains the same: using the behavior of a trapped bubble to indicate orientation.
