Växelposition is a Swedish term that translates to "gear position" or "selection position" and primarily refers to the setting of a gear lever in a vehicle. This lever controls the transmission of power from the engine to the wheels, allowing the vehicle to move forward, reverse, or remain stationary.

In manual transmission vehicles, the växelposition is manually selected by the driver, who moves a gear stick through a specific pattern of gates to engage different gears. Common växelposition options include first gear (for starting from a standstill), higher gears (for increasing speed), neutral (where no gear is engaged and the engine is disconnected from the wheels), and reverse (for moving backward).

In automatic transmission vehicles, the växelposition is typically selected via a selector (often a lever or buttons) that indicates different modes of operation. Standard växelposition settings for automatics usually include Park (P), which locks the transmission and prevents the vehicle from rolling; Reverse (R); Neutral (N); and Drive (D), which automatically shifts through the appropriate gears for forward motion. Some automatic transmissions may also offer manual modes (often designated as M or using sequential shift paddles) allowing the driver to override the automatic shifting and select gears manually, effectively creating a hybrid växelposition experience.
