Värimalleja refers to color models, which are conceptual tools used to organize and represent colors. Different color models serve distinct purposes, often related to how colors are perceived by humans or how they are reproduced by devices.

One common color model is the additive color model, often represented by RGB (Red, Green, Blue). This model is used for displays like monitors and televisions, where different combinations of red, green, and blue light are added together to create a wide spectrum of colors. When all three colors are combined at their maximum intensity, white light is produced. The absence of all colors results in black.

In contrast, the subtractive color model, commonly represented by CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Key/Black), is used in printing. In this model, colors are created by subtracting light from a white surface. For example, cyan ink absorbs red light, magenta absorbs green light, and yellow absorbs blue light. Black ink is added to achieve deeper blacks and improve contrast. Mixing cyan, magenta, and yellow theoretically produces black, but in practice, a separate black ink is used for better results.

Another important color model is HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) or HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value). These models describe colors in a more intuitive way for human perception. Hue represents the pure color (e.g., red, green, blue), saturation refers to the intensity or purity of the color, and lightness or value indicates how light or dark the color is. These models are often used in graphic design software for easier color selection and manipulation.
