Vuosikasvina is the Finnish term for an annual plant, a plant that completes its life cycle in a single growing season. A seed germinates, grows, flowers, sets seed, and dies within one year or one growing season. This life strategy contrasts with biennials, which require two years to complete their life cycle, and with perennials, which live for multiple years and may flower repeatedly.

Annuals often allocate much of their energy to rapid growth and seed production. In temperate regions many annuals are frost-sensitive and rely on warm temperatures.
