Vorgespannter is a German adjective describing something that has been pre-tensioned or pre-stressed. The term is used primarily in engineering and construction contexts to denote components or materials that have received an initial tensile load before final assembly or service, in order to improve performance under later stress.

Linguistic note: Vorgespannter derives from vor- (before, pre-) and gespannt (tensioned). In standard German, the form vorgespannter is the attributive masculine singular ending used before a noun, for example vorgespannter Draht or vorgespannte Bewehrung. The broader concept is often referred to by the related term vorgepannt or the English equivalent pre-tensioned/pre-stressed, depending on the regional terminology.

Engineering usage: The concept is central to pre-tensioning (Vorgespannen) and post-tensioning techniques used in structural engineering. In pretensioning, high-strength tendons are tensioned before the concrete is cast; after the concrete cures, the tendons are anchored and their tension is transferred to the concrete, creating compressive stresses. This pre-imposed compression helps counteract tensile stresses in service, improving crack control and load capacity. The adjective vorgespannter is commonly used to describe the tendons, reinforcement, or members that carry such pre-stressing.
