Voorgedrukte is a Dutch term meaning “pre-printed.” It refers to materials or items on which a substantial portion of the design or content is printed before the final, customer-specific data is added. The concept is used in packaging, forms, tickets, labels, and promotional materials, where brand logos, color schemes, background imagery, and standard text are printed in advance.

Common applications include preprinted packaging with full brand artwork, preprinted forms and invoices that already carry a company header and fixed text, tickets and vouchers that display fixed layouts or barcodes, and labels where the general design is finished before customization. In these cases, the remaining information—such as names, dates, serial numbers, or addresses—is added later, often through variable data printing.

Production typically involves a standard printing run to apply the non-variable content, followed by the addition of variable data using processes such as inkjet, laser, or thermal printing, or by applying stamps, labels, or digital personalization. This approach can improve consistency and reduce production time and costs for large quantities.

Advantages include cost efficiency, faster turnaround, and uniform branding. Drawbacks can include waste if the preprinted content becomes obsolete, storage needs for long-run stock, and potential security concerns if fixed designs are misused or misaligned with personalized data. In modern printing, the distinction between voorgedrukte and on-demand methods is increasingly blurred through digital and variable data printing technologies.
