Volumeregeling is a term used in engineering to describe the regulation of a volume flow or, in some contexts, the control of an audio signal’s amplitude. In fluid systems, volumeregeling aims to maintain a specified volumetric flow rate through a pipe, channel or duct by adjusting a restricting element or the driving force of the fluid. In audio equipment, it refers to adjusting the level of the signal, i.e., the perceived loudness, through electronic or digital means.

In a typical fluid-volume regulation system, a sensor measures the actual flow or volume, a controller compares this measurement with a predefined setpoint, and an actuator (such as a control valve, variable-speed pump, or damper) alters the process to reduce the error. This forms a closed-loop control system, often using a PID (proportional–integral–derivative) algorithm, though other control strategies (feed-forward, cascade, or model-based control) may be employed to improve performance.

There are open-loop and closed-loop forms of volumeregeling. Closed-loop regulation uses feedback to correct deviations, offering greater accuracy and robustness in the presence of disturbances like pressure fluctuations or changing system conditions. Applications span water distribution, chemical and petrochemical processing, district heating and cooling, and HVAC systems, as well as fuel-injection and other fluid-transport processes. In audio contexts, volumeregulation is part of mixer design, amplifiers, and digital processing to ensure a consistent listening level.

Key considerations include measurement accuracy, response time, stability, deadband, noise sensitivity, and energy efficiency. Proper selection of sensors, actuators, and control algorithms is essential for reliable and efficient volumeregeling.
