Vitlista is a term found in Nordic languages, notably Swedish, referring to a white list—a list of items, entities, or actions that are explicitly approved or permitted within a policy, system, or process. The concept contrasts with a blacklist, which enumerates disallowed items. A vitlista approach assumes trust for listed items and aims to streamline decision making by allowing automated clearance for those items without further evaluation.

Common applications include information security (allowing only listed email domains or IP addresses to access a service), software deployment (permit-listed dependencies or certificates), and content moderation (permitted sources or terms). In these contexts, a vitlista helps reduce friction and decision latency by treating listed items as trusted.

Implementation considerations include maintenance overhead, list accuracy, risk of staleness, update mechanisms, versioning, and auditability. Organizations often combine automated checks with periodic reviews and define escalation paths for exceptions. Effective use typically requires governance to manage who can add or remove entries, how changes are approved, and how conflicts are resolved.

Terminology: in English, "allow list" and "whitelist" are common equivalents, with increasing use of "allow-list" to avoid ambiguous language.
