This resistance arises from the internal friction between the fluid's molecules as they move past each other.

Several factors influence viscosity. Temperature is a primary determinant. For most liquids, viscosity decreases as temperature increases; the molecules gain enough energy to overcome intermolecular forces more easily, allowing them to slide past each other with less resistance.
