Virtalähdeelektroniikka, often translated as power supply electronics, refers to the electronic circuits and components responsible for converting electrical energy from one form to another to provide the correct voltage and current for a device. This process is fundamental to the operation of virtually all electronic equipment.

The primary function of power supply electronics is to regulate voltage and current. Input power sources, such as AC mains electricity, are often at a voltage or current level unsuitable for sensitive electronic components. Power supply circuits transform this raw input into a stable, usable output. This typically involves several stages. Rectification converts alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). Filtering smooths out any ripples in the DC signal. Voltage regulation then ensures that the output voltage remains constant despite variations in the input voltage or the load connected to the output.
