Many ecosystems also support range shorthand or special operators: ~1.4.0 (a pessimistic tilde), ^1.2.3 (caret indicating compatibility with 1.x), or ecosystem-specific syntax. Benign constraints allow patch and minor updates, while restrictive constraints can prevent essential fixes or introduce conflicts when multiple dependencies require incompatible versions.
