Verisuonitukos, also known as a blood clot or thrombus, is a semi-solid mass of blood that forms within a blood vessel. This process, called thrombosis, occurs when blood coagulates abnormally. Normally, blood clotting is a vital mechanism to stop bleeding after injury. However, when it happens inappropriately within a vein or artery, it can obstruct blood flow, leading to serious health issues.

Several factors can contribute to the formation of verisuonitukos. These include damage to the vessel wall, such as from injury or inflammation, slow blood flow, often due to immobility, and changes in the blood's clotting ability. This commonly involves anticoagulant medications, which thin the blood and prevent new clots from forming. In some cases, procedures to remove the clot or surgery may be necessary. Prevention strategies include staying active, maintaining a healthy weight, and following medical advice regarding blood-thinning medications when indicated.
