Vandjetcutting is a term that refers to the process of cutting materials using a high-pressure stream of water, often mixed with an abrasive substance. This method, also known as waterjet cutting, is a subtractive manufacturing process that can cut a wide range of materials including metals, plastics, composites, stone, glass, and ceramics. The water stream is propelled by a pump capable of generating pressures from 30,000 to over 90,000 psi.

The abrasive material, typically sand or garnet, is introduced into the water stream in a mixing chamber. This abrasive enhances the cutting power of the water, allowing it to erode even the hardest materials. The nozzle used to direct the water and abrasive mixture is very small, often less than one millimeter in diameter, which enables intricate and precise cuts. The narrow kerf, or width of the cut, is another advantage of this technology, minimizing material waste.
