valikon

Valikon is the genitive singular form of the Finnish noun valikko, which means a menu or a list of options. It is used to indicate possession or association, as in valikon sisältö (“the content of the menu”) or valikon asetukset (“the menu’s settings”). In everyday Finnish, valikko refers to any collection of options presented to a user, whether in a restaurant, a software interface, or a UI element.

The word valikko is derived from valita “to choose” with the suffix -ikko, forming a sense of “a thing to choose from” or “a set of choices.” In computing and software documentation, valikon appears in phrases describing interfaces, such as valikon avautuminen (“opening the menu”) or valikon nimi (“the name of the menu”). Grammatically, valikon is a case-inflected form used within larger noun phrases and is not a separate technical concept.

Outside of standard Finnish grammar, Valikon may occasionally appear as a proper noun in branding or creative titles. In such cases, capitalization distinguishes it from the ordinary word, but these usages are context-specific and not inherent to the term itself.
