Vakuumuvsäteily refers to electromagnetic radiation that is theorized to exist in a vacuum even in the absence of any matter or energy source. This concept arises from quantum field theory, specifically the idea of vacuum fluctuations. According to quantum mechanics, the vacuum is not truly empty but is a dynamic state where virtual particle-antiparticle pairs constantly pop into and out of existence. These fleeting fluctuations can be thought of as excitations of quantum fields, and as they change, they can emit and absorb virtual photons.

While these virtual photons are transient, under certain conditions, they can become real. This conversion is often associated with processes like the Casimir effect, where the presence of boundaries can alter the vacuum energy and lead to observable forces.
