This is a crucial concept in computer science and various technological systems designed to improve performance by reducing the need to access slower storage mechanisms.

The principle behind vahemäluga is based on the idea of locality of reference. Data that has been recently used or is likely to be used soon is stored in a fast, small memory component. When a request for data is made, the system first checks the vahemäluga. If the data is found there, it is called a cache hit, and the data is returned quickly. If the data is not found, it is called a cache miss, and the system must retrieve it from the slower main memory or storage, which takes significantly longer. After retrieving the data, it is often copied into the vahemäluga for future use.

Vahemäluga can be found at multiple levels within a computer system. CPU caches are small, high-speed memory units located directly on the processor chip.
