Véleményelemzés, often translated as sentiment analysis or opinion mining, is a subfield of natural language processing (NLP) that focuses on identifying and extracting subjective information from text. Its primary goal is to determine the attitude or sentiment expressed by an author towards a particular topic, product, or service. This sentiment can be categorized as positive, negative, or neutral, and sometimes more granular emotions like joy, anger, or sadness can be identified.

The process typically involves several steps. First, text data is collected from various sources, such as social media, reviews, surveys, or news articles. This data is then preprocessed to clean it, removing irrelevant characters, punctuation, and stop words, and often performing stemming or lemmatization. Following preprocessing, feature extraction techniques are applied to represent the text in a numerical format that can be understood by machine learning algorithms. Common features include word frequencies, n-grams, or word embeddings. Machine learning models, such as Naive Bayes, Support Vector Machines (SVMs), or deep learning models like Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) and Transformers, are then trained on labeled datasets to classify the sentiment of new, unseen text.

Véleményelemzés has a wide range of applications. Businesses use it to monitor brand reputation, understand customer feedback, and improve product development. Political analysts employ it to gauge public opinion on policies and candidates. Social scientists utilize it to study public discourse and societal trends. While it has become increasingly sophisticated, challenges remain, including handling sarcasm, irony, and context-dependent sentiment, as well as dealing with multilingual data and informal language.
