unmix

unmix is a command-line utility designed for reversing certain types of audio signal processing, particularly those that have combined multiple audio sources into a single track. Its primary function is to attempt to separate these mixed sources back into individual components, a process often referred to as source separation or audio de-mixing. This can be useful for a variety of applications, such as isolating vocals from instrumental music, extracting a specific instrument from a band recording, or cleaning up noisy audio by separating desired sounds from unwanted ones.

The effectiveness of unmix depends heavily on the nature of the original mix. Techniques that apply significant compression, equalization, or introduce complex reverberation can make it very difficult for unmix to accurately identify and separate the constituent audio signals.
