uitrijden

Uitrijden is a Dutch verb meaning to ride out, i.e., to complete the remaining distance of a ride or race and reach the finish line. The term combines uit- (out, completion) with rijden (to ride). In broad use it denotes finishing a ride or event and can also refer to going out on a ride for recreation or training.

In cycling and other racing disciplines, uitrijden refers to continuing to ride until the finish after any decisive moment in the race, or simply to complete the full course. It can imply maintaining a steady pace toward the end and avoiding unnecessary risks. The phrase is common in race reports and commentary, for example when a rider who has secured a position continues to the finish rather than launching another attack.

In horseback riding, uitrijden has two related meanings: (1) going out for a ride with a horse, as part of training, conditioning, or recreation; and (2) finishing a training session by cooling down while riding, rather than dismounting immediately. In this sense it emphasizes the act of finishing the session on the horse.

Colloquially, uitrijden can also refer to completing any planned ride, trip, or route, such as finishing a long cycling tour or a test ride.
