ubog

Ubog is a Filipino term used to describe being drenched or soaked with water. It is applied to people, clothing, or surfaces that have absorbed a substantial amount of moisture, such as clothes after a heavy rain or objects submerged in water. The word is common in colloquial speech and can appear in discussions of weather events, floods, or everyday situations.

As an adjective, ubog modifies the noun it describes: for example, ubog ang damit (the clothes are soaked) or ubog sa ulan (soaked by the rain). It can also be used in phrases indicating wetness resulting from rain or flooding, such as ubog sa baha. In general, ubog conveys a strong degree of wetness, more than simply damp.

Relation to other wetness terms: basâ and basa are related, with basâ often used to describe wetness and basa as the noun for wetness. Ubog emphasizes the condition of being thoroughly soaked and is a common, regionally understood term in Tagalog and related Philippine languages. Etymology is not definitively documented, but ubog remains a stable part of the Filipino lexicon and often overlaps with other words for wetness in ordinary speech.
