Télécabines, often referred to as gondola lifts or aerial tramways, are a type of aerial lift system that transports passengers in cabins suspended from a continuously moving cable. These systems are commonly found in mountainous regions, particularly for ski resorts, and in urban environments to overcome geographical barriers or provide scenic transportation.

The cabins, typically enclosed and varying in size, are attached to a moving haul rope. This rope is driven by an electric motor at one of the stations, usually the lower or upper terminal. The cable runs over bullwheel towers that support it and keep it at the correct height above the ground. Passengers board the cabins at stations, and the cabins travel along the cable to their destination.

Télécabines offer several advantages. They can transport a large number of people efficiently and provide access to otherwise difficult-to-reach areas. They have a relatively small environmental footprint on the ground, as only the towers require significant land use. The enclosed cabins offer protection from weather conditions, making them a reliable mode of transport year-round. The speed of télécabines can vary, but they are generally slower than other forms of motorized transport, allowing for enjoyable views during the journey. Their design also allows for flexibility in route planning, capable of crossing valleys, rivers, and steep terrain.
