A työviisumi, or work visa, is a permit allowing a foreign national to enter and work in Finland for a specific period. These visas are typically required for individuals who are not citizens of the European Union or the European Economic Area and wish to take up employment in Finland. The application process usually involves securing a job offer from a Finnish employer who then initiates the process by applying for a work permit on behalf of the prospective employee.

There are several types of work visas, depending on the nature of the work and the applicant's qualifications. For highly skilled workers, there are often streamlined processes. For other types of employment, the requirements might include proof of qualifications, sufficient income, and adequate housing. The Finnish Immigration Service, Migri, is responsible for processing these applications.

To be eligible for a työviisumi, applicants generally need a valid passport, a confirmed job offer with specific terms and conditions, and evidence that their skills are needed in Finland. Employers must demonstrate that they have advertised the position within Finland and the EU/EEA before hiring a non-EU/EEA citizen, unless specific exceptions apply. The duration of the visa is tied to the employment contract, and extensions are possible if the employment continues. Holders of a work visa are generally permitted to reside in Finland for the duration of their work permit and are subject to Finnish labor laws.
