The coverage primarily applies to employees and other workers engaged under an employment relationship. Self-employed individuals can obtain voluntary accident insurance to cover work-related injuries. Apprentices and certain other categories may also fall under applicable provisions. The insurance is provided by private insurance companies that are authorized and supervised by the authorities, with premiums paid by employers.

When an accident or work-related illness occurs, the employee reports the incident to the employer, who then submits a claim to the insurer. The insurer assesses eligibility and, if approved, pays benefits directly to the employee or to healthcare providers as needed. Benefits generally include medical treatment and rehabilitation costs, wage replacement during temporary incapacity, and compensation for permanent impairment. In cases of death or long-term disability, survivors’ benefits or additional compensation may be provided.
