Tunneside is a fictional coastal town and port located on a sheltered inlet in the country of Northhaven. It serves as the administrative center of the Tunneside Municipality.

Geography and environment

The town covers about 15 square kilometers, with a natural harbor that provides shelter for fishing vessels and small cargo ships. Hills rise to the west, and the coastline features a mix of rocky shores and sandy beaches. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild winters and relatively cool summers.

History

Tunneside originated in the early modern period as a fishing village. The harbor was expanded in the 19th century, which spurred shipbuilding and trade. In the 20th century, fishing declined and the economy diversified toward tourism, logistics, and light industry. The town retains several historic waterfront structures from the 1800s.

Economy

Today, the port handles commercial shipping, seafood processing, and boat maintenance. Tourism and hospitality are important secondary sectors, supported by a promenade, a small marina, and culturally oriented events. Local services and light manufacturing also contribute to employment.

Governance

Tunneside forms the main settlement of Tunneside Municipality within Northhaven’s coastal region. The council is led by a mayor and consists of representatives from two wards, East and West, who are elected for four-year terms.

Demographics and culture

As of the early 2020s, the population is around 12,000. The community hosts cultural events such as the Sea Festival and maintains a small museum focused on maritime history.

Landmarks and transportation

Notable sites include Tunneside Lighthouse and the Old Granary converted into a maritime museum. The town has a port facility and a ferry terminal linking to nearby islands, with road connections to the regional network. A rail link existed in the past but is not part of the current infrastructure.
