Trochilus is a genus of hummingbirds that includes only one extant species, the white-tailed emerald (Chlorostilbon gibsoni). Historically, the genus was much broader and encompassed several species now classified under other genera, such as Amazilia and Chlorostilbon. The name Trochilus itself comes from the Greek word trokhilos, meaning "a small bird" or "a type of bird."

The white-tailed emerald, the sole surviving member of the Trochilus genus, is a small, vibrantly colored hummingbird found in the Caribbean. Its plumage is predominantly green, with iridescent highlights. Males typically have a forked tail and a bright red bill, while females are generally duller with a less pronounced tail. They inhabit tropical and subtropical forests, woodlands, and gardens, feeding on nectar from flowers and small insects.
