trimalleolar
Trimalleolar refers to a fracture involving all three malleoli of the ankle. The ankle joint is formed by the tibia and fibula, the two bones of the lower leg, and the talus, a bone in the foot. The malleoli are the bony prominences at the lower end of the tibia and fibula. The medial malleolus is on the inside of the ankle, the lateral malleolus is on the outside, and the posterior malleolus is at the back of the tibia.
A trimalleolar fracture is a severe injury that typically results from significant trauma, such as a fall
Diagnosis of a trimalleolar fracture is usually made through physical examination and imaging studies, primarily X-rays.
