Tonerteknologi refers to the various methods and materials used in laser printers and photocopiers to create printed images. At its core, toner is a fine powder composed of plastic particles, pigments, and other additives. This powder is electrostatically charged and attracted to an oppositely charged image on a rotating drum.

The printing process begins with the laser scanning an image onto a photoreceptor drum, creating an electrostatic latent image. Toner particles, similarly charged, are then applied to the drum, adhering only to the charged areas. As paper passes through the printer, it receives an electrostatic charge that is stronger than that of the drum, causing the toner to transfer from the drum to the paper.

The toner is then fused onto the paper using a fuser unit, which consists of heated rollers. The heat melts the plastic components of the toner, permanently bonding it to the paper fibers. Different types of toner exist, including conventional toner, high-density toner, and environmentally friendly formulations that use less energy during fusing or are made from renewable resources.
